This luxury custom home started with a major teardown and reimagination of an existing 1924 Spanish eclectic home in Point Loma. We preserved the most significant original details and rooms of the existing home including the living room with barrel ceilings, dining room with coved ceilings and an inset niche, fireplace and original hardwood floors and doors by spanning the original structure with steel beams. The rest of the home, which was result of various, poorly conceived additions and remodels, was scraped.
The existing footprint was reconfigured and expanded. The new first floor structure was raised to 12′ ceilings to span and thereby preserve the original structure. New bedrooms and bathrooms were added on a new second story. The home was designed with many Santa Barbara style Spanish Colonial Revival details and features numerous Moroccan influences seen in the arched colonnade, zelige tilework fountains, wrought iron balconies, and light fixtures. The finishes emphasized the use traditional materials like natural white oak, Saltillo and cement tile, authentic imported Moroccan mosaics, wood windows, custom wrought iron, carved wood, and plaster.
